If it’s true that ‘Architecture is the backdrop to life’, this house had no other fate than to be as unconventional and eclectic as the two wonderful women who call it home.

Peg and Hadj have been friends and co-restaurateurs over a lifetime filled with world travels, art, study groups, and great homemade pie. Their home had to embrace all these activities, plus the constant flow of many friends who fill the roomswhile opening itself up to all the varied views of forest and meadows right outside the windows.

The house is based on the concept of a 2-person ‘co-house': each woman has her own separate suite, one on each end of the building. They share a common central area for the large kitchen, dining, and living areas, laundry and guest bath.

Because of the exquisite views out every side of the home, a sunroom was incorporated into the south side of the house; a full, wide picture window opens up to the meadow on the north. Both suites have expansive views into the trees, the raingardens and beyond.

Throughout the house, the vast collection of paintings, sculpture, antiques and found objects have found their places on the many niches and shelves that were carved out and built into the walls: the wall dividing kitchen/dining from living/gathering room is replete with ledges and gallery lighting. The south-facing gable has become home to a very old stained glass piece that Peg obtained many years ago.

These days, many other creatures have started calling this ‘home.’ Since the completion of construction and raingardens, nature has provided an abundance of birds and other wildlife to augment and enrich even more fully the rich life within.
